Problem guide
Make a rover that stops or turns before hitting walls
Plan an ultrasonic obstacle robot with level-shift awareness for 3.3V boards and kit shortcuts.
Steps
- Mount ultrasonic sensor facing forward; keep wiring short to reduce noise.
- On 3.3V MCUs, level-shift or divider the 5V ECHO line before GPIO.
- Drive motors via L298N/L293-class driver with a separate motor supply if needed.
- Filter distance readings (median of 3) before deciding turn direction.
Kits & catalog links
Start from project kits matching “obstacle”, then fill gaps from parts.
Safety
- HC-SR04 ECHO is typically 5V — protect 3.3V inputs.
- Isolate noisy motor grounds carefully; share GND with logic.
Assumptions
- Pin maps differ by board; use Compatibility Checker for known parts.
